Many doctors send patients to x-ray labs because they themselves do not have x-ray machines in their offices. Most hospitals have x-ray labs on the premises but many x-ray labs are independent. Some x-ray labs also have other kinds of machines capable of peering into the human body in a noninvasive manner such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machines or computed axial tomography scanners (CAT scanners or CT scanners).
