A vineyard is a very specific kind of farm that specializes in growing grapes. The vast majority of vineyards grow grapes that are used in wine. Different climates and different soil types are conducive to growing different types of grapes. In some areas the vineyards grow chardonnay grapes where other vineyards grow pinot noir grapes, cabernet sauvignon grapes, merlot grapes or zinfandel grapes.
